A word from Tracy E.

My favourite artist of all time is Edvard Munch. In the early Nineties Munch and any form of Expressionism was highly unfashionable but I couldn’t help myself — I kept returning to him like an old lover. I find his paintings passionate in terms of emotion and political and social criteria. He was a man of the people as well as an extreme, pioneering painter. My favourite Munch story is the one referring to his summer studio. He would ask collectors to return his work — works that were 20 or 30 years old — on the basis that he would like to study them. He would then keep the paintings until the snows came, informing the collector that the painting could not be returned until spring. During this time he would paint another and return the copy to the collector, keeping the original for himself. He truly loved his own work.
